In 1931, faye g. Vernon kilns was one of the “big five” california potteries which included metlox, pacific clay, gladding, mcbean & co. In 1935, vernon kilns hired a series of contract designers and artists to create tableware and art ware. This vernonware “homespun” tableware pattern was designed and produced from 1949 to 1958. All the pieces in this vernonware “homespun pattern” complete 35 piece tea set for eight were hand painted prior to being glazed, hence the “hand painted underglaze” reference in the maker mark under each piece. All 35 pieces are in good condition with no chips or cracks only a few minor utensil scratches and glaze crazing on both oval platters (see photos). The salt shaker has a cork inserted from the outside and the pepper shaker has a cork inside the container. This is a gorgeous complete tea set for eight of vernonware “homespun”, a very popular pattern in the 1950’s. This 35 piece tea set for eight includes.
