D e s c r i p t i o n. Stunning and modern tableware in the concept pattern by hornsea. Set includes 6 dinner plates, 8 salad plates, 8 cups and 6 saucers. Great clean mid-century style. Designed by martin hunt in 1977, and in production through 1981, concept was the ultimate hornsea modern tableware design. It had an elegant contoured and ridge shape with spot glaze applied to the vitreous body. Thefinish a rich cream colour was unique. In its crisp but subtle surface relief,’concept’ exploited the design possibilities afforded by’vibrating polishing’ (vibrating the piece in a container loaded with ceramic pellets). This created smooth unglazed surfaces. Another critical and commercial success,’concept’ won a design council award in 1977. It was produced on lisence at upsala ekeby’s rorstand factory insweden. With concept, hornsea’s stylish tableware easily competed with contemporary scandinavian ceramics. Concept is in the v&a collection.
