A dominating functionalist school of designers thought that quistgaard’s designs were too decorative and not focused on function. Because of his danish unpopularity, quistgaard joined a collaboration with american’dansk designs’ to become the artistic leader for more than 40 years. So if you live in the us, you have probably come across quistgaard’s designs at some point – and you probably love his stylish tableware designs. Today quistgaard is celebrated (also in denmark) for his accurate and typical designs. This splendid tea set from the’tema’ collection is a gorgeous example of how aesthetics and function emerged in the 70s.
